In my Opinion games are as important for adults as they are for children.
There are several reasons to support this.
One major reason for the importance of games is the presence of a lot of games who are played by adults. For example there are a lot of games which are designed especially for adults and have quite a sophisticated gameplay.
Additionally games in a group are mostly very enlightening. For myself evenings playing board games with friend are always humorous because of the conversations during the games.
As a last aspect the importance of games is the ability to socialize with others. This will help you especially on your job. For example the behavior you have towards others during a game, you also will have when your at work with colleagues.
In conclusion playing games not only benefits you while being a child, but also later as an adult. If you have persons around you who find it childish playing boardgames you actually should not care about it and just enjoy playing your games.
